Enriching the People, Revitalizing Gansu: Southern Environmental Protection Firms Support Construction of Gansu Province's First Fully Buried Wastewater Treatment Plant
Gansu, as an open hub along the Belt and Road Initiative in China's northwest inland region, is also a shining gem on the Silk Road. During his inspection of Gansu in 2019, General Secretary Xi Jinping stood by the banks of the Yellow River and exclaimed, "The banks of the Yellow River are truly beautiful," while emphasizing that Gansu must take the lead in tackling the critical tasks of ecological restoration, soil and water conservation, and pollution prevention along the upper reaches of the Yellow River. Since its groundbreaking on June 18, 2020, the expansion project of the Yanchang Sewage Treatment Plant in Lanzhou City has now been put into operation, capable of processing up to 100,000 tons of wastewater daily. This state-of-the-art facility serves the daily sewage treatment needs of the Yanchangbao and Jiuzhou areas—covering 40 square kilometers and home to 390,000 residents. As a key environmental protection project in Gansu Province, it also marks the province’s first fully underground sewage treatment plant. Since its inception and construction, the project has drawn widespread attention from all sectors of society.

The kitchen waste pre-processing workshop has a strong odor—how can we improve this?
The project's original odor-control system failed to fully adapt to the current workshop conditions, resulting in less-than-expected odor removal performance. As a result, air quality inside the workshop, along the visitor corridors in the factory area, and at the厂区 boundaries still needs improvement. Southern Environmental Protection is now conducting an in-depth design of the odor-control system process, tailored specifically to the actual conditions of the workshop.

It focuses exclusively on producing meat and seafood flavorings and extracts, where high-concentration odors are generated throughout processes such as mixing and grinding. These odors not only fluctuate significantly but also feature a complex composition—testing has revealed the presence of more than 20 components, including starch, proteins, amino acids, and their derivatives.
